I discovered Edinburgh artist Plum after meeting her alter ego Shona Maguire at a music related shindig in Edinburgh. I love that whenever someone sends you their music you never know what to expect, her album was unexpectedly refreshing: a blend of well executed songcraft, delicate vocals and electro production it’s an all round quite bewitching showcase.
Plum Plays…Grimes, Be a Body
“It’s fun music, done simply, but really well.”
Grimes is Claire Boucher, a 23 year old Canadian musician and producer. A colleague of mine recommended her to me saying she reminded him of me. I was instantly hooked when I heard her music. What I love most about her is that she’s clearly just having fun, enjoying herself & not trying to perfect it too much. She writes songs fast & doesn’t seem to care too much what people think. She’s not trying to be sexy, she’s just being herself. I think that’s the best part. You don’t see a lot of people in the current music scene genuinely being themselves, there’s a lot of “scene-sters” trying to fit into an image they think is trendy or now.
A quick interjection – as music descriptions go this is potentially the most intriguing I have ever heard…
Cindy Lauper goes to Japan, joins the Harijuku girls, then joins an underground rave scene. It’s dark, but sweet, poppy and great to dance to.
